How to maintain my red highlights in my dark brown hair?
My natural hair color is a dirty blonde. I had highlighted it different shades of light blonde for about 2 years, and just recently I dyed it dark brown with black and red highlights. My hairstylist said that because I had put such a dark color on my light colored hair, it would fade really fast But she said it would stick alot better after my second visit to dye it dark. I'm wondering if using a shampoo like Tressa WaterColors Crimson Splash Shampoo would help enhance my red streaks? Or would it make my dark brown look reddish too? Any advice? Thanks!!

Actually, shampooing it less will help the most. If you can manage that is (I know I can't!) But if you can't, shampooing and conditioning your hair in cold water will definitely help it from fading so quickly. Yes it will still fade, and it will take a couple more visits to really get the pigment to stay in your hair, but red will always fade a little regardless. At the salon I work at, we have a gloss treatment that we use on clients. We have a clear version and some tinted versions. We have reds, browns, blondes, and lavenders (for toning brassy colors). We use the treatment on a lot of red heads that come through the doors, and it helps the longevity of the color, along with the health of the hair. When I got my red frame on my blonde hair a while back, they used that treatment on me and it definitely helped it last. I would talk to your stylist and see if they offer any services like that to help.
And even though it's random, I would definitely get some darker colored pillow cases. I had white ones when I got my red highlights, and woke up to faint red on my pillow the next morning! It doesn't always happen, but I would definitely switch out the pillow cases to a darker color if possible, just to be safe! Hope this helped!
