Will a landlord allow a tenant to sign a lease if they owe back rent?

So I live in NYC and the problem began when my boyfriend lost his job, the rent is $1400 and its in one of those middle income HPD buildings and so far we are 1 month and a half behind on rent. December will make 2 and 1/2 behind on rent. The lease is up in December, will the management of the building allow us to sign a renewal of lease?

I honestly can't afford it and don't want to sign since the rent will increase. But, the other person is insisting and has no income! I know sticky situation.

"The other person" seems a little daft, thinking a new lease will be offered.

    My question is :

Has he been intercepting any eviction notices and hiding them from you?

Find another place to live because if he doesn't get a job and cash flow soon you won't have a place to live. And it might be time to dump someone who doesn't understand how to do math.

You don't have a lot of time, and it's winter.

I wonder why you havent been evicted. You think management is going to offer you another lease when you owe them a lot of money. Are you kidding. What planet are u on?

That would be entirely up to the landlord. Landlords are in the business to make money. Why would they sign new leases with anyone who has proven that they can't pay?

Probably not. Quite honestly, I'm surprised that they haven't started the eviction process against you yet.

No one can force you to sign a lease, so don't sign it if you don't want to.

of course not. At this point, you should be asking when they will kick you out. PS, you are 2 months behind already.

No. They are already supporting you, I am sure eviction and lawsuit are what they are wanting.
