2002 Cadillac SLS overheating?
My SLS has a coolant problem. I keep having to add water to it. I can drive all day on the interstate and it doesnt overheat as long as air is blowing on the radiator.
I started it up and after a few minutes the overflow resivoir starts to boil and overflow. If I turn on the heater or ac it will stop. As soon as I turn the heat/ac off it starts to boil out again.
The heater blows hot air.
I drained the radiator to put radiator flush in it and the water out the radiator was crystal clear. I put the flush in it and it didnt make any difference.
I noticed when I feel the radiator hose that goes to the top right of the radiator it gets very hot.
The hose underneath it that comes from the bottom left of the radiator doesnt get very hot at all.
Could it be the thermostat?
A while back the tensioner pully for the water pump broke and the water pump wasnt turning. I couldnt even drive 5 miles before the temp gauge maxed out. So I dont think its the water pump?
Any suggestions?

The only possible way turning the AC on could help would be if the high temperature sensor wasn't turning the radiator fans on. The AC turns the fans on with a separate relay.
There's a good chance the radiator is in bad shape. That makes overheating problems at low speed worse.

If u drained the fluid out to, this car has bleeders on coolant system, on 1 or 2 places in the coolant, on top of engine, follow the collant hoses and look for a small probably gold, brass fitting or fittings maybe 8 mm bolt head, with car cold losing bolt a little, cut on heater take off coolant fill cap, start car keep filling it with coolant untill the bleededer is steady flowing then turn it back tye plastic coolant jug should be half full and at 223 tem fans should be on, no ac, if not fixed u probably have a blowed head gasket

Are the electric radiator cooling fans switching on after the dash temperature reaches 212 degrees? If not an inexpensive electrical temperature fan switch will fix the problem.
When was the last time that your cooling system was drained flushed and CLEANED with one part GM powered acid cooling system cleaner to get the rust and corrosion out?
At this point you need to have an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test done which will find any external or internal cooling system leaks.
Operating the car without a 50/50 mixture of Dexcool Antifreeze and distilled water will rust the cooling system.
If anyone has ever dumped discount store antifreeze in a GM system built in 1995 or newer will PLUG the cooling system.

It sure sounds like the thermostat isn't opening and allowing water to flow.
