Why do my Severum ( tropical fish ) eat their eggs 2 days after laying them ?
I have a gold female severum and a green male Severum. They are a young pair. This is their second mating. They've eaten their eggs both times after 2 days. They are both good parents. They guard, protect, clean, and fan their eggs for 2 days and then they suddenly eat them. The white eggs are removed. Why are these eggs eaten ?

Severum eat unfertilised or dead eggs - the ones they know will not hatch. That's about all I can tell you on this. If they are eating all of the eggs, there must be another reason for it.

They might feel the eggs are in danger, if you water quality is good and the fish are healthy, they get on, don't fight, that kind of thing then there is probably no reason for them feeling that the eggs are in so much danger that they need to be eaten, if you can separate the fertilized eggs and wait for them to hatch.
Good luck :)
