Why a flood? Why not make the generation previous to the flood generation sterile, except Noah's line?

After all, God saw the whole thing coming, right?

Is God just addicted to drama?

When God gives good gifts to mankind, He does not then take them away.

He commanded the first humans to reproduce and spread out to fill the Earth. That means having sex. What's more, God made sex incredibly pleasurable.

If God then changed His mind and thought, "Those bad people are doing what I commanded, procreating, but because they're not behaving properly, I'll take away my gift of sex from them..." then you would have had a capricious God. People would think, "Wow! He took away His gift of sex from so many people! Perhaps He'll take away the gift of fresh water next. Then we'll get sick." And God would also have shown Himself to be inherently contradictory to His stated word.

No. God provides myriad good things for us and steps back. If we abuse those gifts, not only we, but others suffer. God's law is that whatever we sow, we reap. The entire universe operates on the principle of cause and effect, for goodness sake! Why would God make it different for us?

However, God warns us well in advance before He takes action. The people prior to the flood were well warned plus had the opportunity to be saved. Same with the Jewish people in Jesus' time - He warned of the coming destruction of Jerusalem plus said what to do to get out beforehand. Those who paid attention were saved. And Jesus also warned that "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be" when He returns to Earth. People will be eating, drinking, marrying and paying no attention, then sudden destruction will come.

But we have been warned well in advance and told how to be saved. But, guess what? Those who don't believe God exists blame Him for being unfair! They just don't see it coming, right? AiH

The flood story is a common theme in just about all genesis mythology across the world. It's pretty safe to assume that there actually was a flood at some point. But why a flood?

Maybe God was multitasking, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. You kill off the angel/man hybrids and all the other evil people, and hit the reset button on the world climate, sending the world into a mini ice age at the same time. You know, take advantage of the opportunity to create some nice limestone and other sedimentary rocks...

Who are you to question what God did 6,000 years ago?

as in the days of noe (noah) so shall it be in the end times

hmm "looks around at the world today"

people raping/killing. husband drowining his wife & all of his daughters & claiming sharia law. mother stabs her daughter 10 times ...also claiming a similar honor killing (daughter survived). rape/murder/plundering. in my own neighborhood right here the other day, some 16 year old brat tried to murder someone else. he even had a 5 foot deep grave dug out in the back yard!! (dont worry didnt succed...but that after a horrendous attack of hamemr then baseball bat then knife)

then there's that guy ariel with what he did to those women....oh & mr pickton the pig farmer & an actual neighbor of mine many years ago. nice guy. yep!

recently a woman was burned at stake for being a witch...this is fkng 2013 yet c/r/a/p like this is still going on!

im not even going to mention what people are doing to animals right now.

so yeah..thats why...being sterile doesnt mean you cant do other stuff. they could have killed off noah's family or something.

Source(s): so yes he saw it coming & no it has nothing to do with drama but everything to do with safety.

If the truth is closer to the fact that we can create and recreate our own world, using the euphemism "God", then wouldn't it be a better question as to why we did it? Are those who are "left behind" luckier than those who survived?

I do not know what other answer to give. If you live on a flood plain, expect a flood every now and then. We are a part of the world, not apart from the world.

Drama? I think you mean vindictive spitefulness.

Those pesky humans aren't going to learn a lesson until they're drowned in their homes. Then they'll be sorry.

Why not just wink them out of existence, and change human memory and history forever? Why drown? Why not use a disease? Why not a zombie apocalypse?
