I'm getting over a horrible cold...?
And this sore throat won't go away!!! Cough drops don't work for me, I've used Chloroseptic spray but that only works for a little bit. I have a minor cough and I keep losing my voice. I'm about to break into the ice cream carton!!!

Go to the Doctor and insist he give you something, for your sore throat.
I had one of very few sore throats, a few years ago and the Doctor said medication will do no good, as it was only a virus.
Like you....I was at wits end because I knew there was an infection there and needed antibiotics to clear it up.
I told him I would like to try the medication, anyway. I did and within an hour I was on the road to recovery...my throat was getting better.
I believe sometimes before going to a Doctor, for ANYTHING....we should do our own research first....as I have known way too many people suffering unnecessarily.
Might I add that I have been getting the flu shot for about 5 years and it has done wonders. I haven't had the flu since and if by chance I get a little sniffle, it is so mild I do not know if it might be a slight cold, or allergies.
Good luck...hope it works for you.

First of all, do not eat ice cream. Dairy is not good when you have a head cold. For one, it's properties and texture cause it to latch onto any existing mucus and exacerbate it, meaning there will be more and it will be worse. Also, you don't want to put dairy into your body if you have a fever. Just like you wouldn't leave milk out in the heat, you shouldn't put it into an overheated body.
Cough drops and sprays mask a problem and help to relieve it temporarily. They don't fix it.
To help your throat to heal, follow these steps, then I will give you ideas to temporarily soothe it. First of all, drink plenty of water. Just water or hot herbal tea (honey is good too, it helps your throat). I would stick with ice water or hot tea. Alternating between the two. The ice water will help sooth your throat and hydrate you. The tea will help sooth and heal, and if it's caffeine free, it helps to hydrate. You need to be hydrated to get well. As well, you want to blow your nose and keep your sinuses clear. A sore throat can be the result of a nasal drip into your throat. Drinking plenty of water helps mucus to flow and makes blowing your nose clear easier. Next, make sure to rest, both your body and your voice. If you need to speak, talk a a regular volume. Do not yell or whisper. Whispering puts as much strain on your voice as yelling, so just talk normal. Do not sing or strain your voice. Make sure you are eating well. Your body can't heal without proper nutrients, so eating well doesn't mean "make sure you are eating something" it means make sure you eat and that what you eat isn't crap. Vitamin C is helpful, but avoid it in acidic items like orange juice that will irritate your throat. The final step is patience. Know that your body has a virus and it won't just go away, it has to run it's course. Take care of your body so it can get better as fast as possible, and follow these next steps for temporary relief.
Ideas for temporary sore throat relief:
- Drink ice water
- Drink hot tea (with honey and/or lemon) (caffeine free)
- Eat ice pops (seriously as many as you want, the sugar won't be a problem and it will feel great)
- Melt a menthol cough drop into hot tea and drink it
- Take a hot shower, let the hot water soak your throat (externally) and breathe in the steam
- Keep your throat warm
- Keep the air your breath fresh. Open a window and cover up with a blanket. The cold will be refreshing and the flow of cold fresh air will help get germs out of the room.
- Use a humidifier. If your house is very dry, use a humidifier so that you can breath moisture in while your throat is sore.
- Avoid caffeine, acidic beverages and food items, and dairy.
