Which cordless dog clippers give you the most bang for your buck?

Especially need one that does not get hot because it takes quite a while to groom a standard poodle.

Get a professional corded clipper. They tend to stay cooler better, and will outlast a cordless. Oster or andis are best. Expect to spend around 100-150 for a decent pair. another 20-25 or so per blade. The cheaper kits are just that, cheap. They do not last as long and get hot faster.

When my dog was younger, I bought a Wahl. My dog is 1/2 Poodle. It wasn't powerful enough for a Poodle coat and it got stuck in my dogs hair. He was screaming and I had to cut the clipper out of his hair. Be very careful as to what kind of clippers you need for a Poodle coat. I never tried it again. I take my dog to the groomers now. It was a horrible experience for both of us.

Try going to the Pet Edge site. You can check all of the clippers, they have a lot of them. You can find some that are suitable for your dogs coat. They also have the best prices in the country and a huge selection.
