Air condition will not blow cold anymore?

I got a 1991 Honda Accord LX sedan and all of a sudden my a/c does not blow out cold air whatsoever anymore. I seriously can't afford taking to a shop and I'm decent with cars but I never had this issue before.

What are the possibilities?

3 cans of free on we're put in back in August 2013

Antifreeze is at normal

Belts are in good condition

Compressor doesn't look worn and it's plugged in

Not missing fan belts

If the Freon is full there's a very good chance your going to need a compressor. That's pretty much the only thing that has a high failure rate on the older Honda A/C systems. Check with a mirror on the front of the compressor for rusty colored powder residue from the compressor clutch, that's usually an indication that the clutch has failed Good luck and hope this helps.

  • I recently had this on my car. The compressor was out and the fuse was blown. So I would recheck both of those things and unless you are experienced with automotive mechanics, I would not suggest doing it or anything related to your A/C yourself because there is so much chance for error, such as not flushing all the fluids properly (Freon, etc.), electrical shorts, and what not. The compressor is a quite hefty price so try to find a good one at a junkyard for anything around 800 or less. If you try replacing the fuse and it works for a while then goes out again, it probably is your compressor. Also you might want to try the clutch for the A/C if that is a separate part (mine was one piece w/ the compressor).

    Hope that helps!

You may need your system recharged with Freon.
