CAN A ROYAL MARRY ANOTHER ROYAL?
Heyy :) So I was wondering, if there's a royal like say Prince Harry who wanted to marry someone from another monarchy would he be allowed!? and where would they get married!? like where would the wedding take place...
I only asked if they can as a side note! No need to get so touchy, I was just checking!! And the more important question was where they would get married.

Yes, royals have ALWAYS been able to marry other royals. Where the wedding takes place is up to the bride and groom and their families.
When a future king or queen regnant marries, the ceremony usually takes place in the realm of the heir to the throne, but it can take place elsewhere.
When Princess Sofia of Greece and Denmark married the future king of Spain, Juan Carlos, the ceremony took place in Athens, eventhough Greece had done away with the monarchy. Sofia gave up Greek Orthodoxy to become Catholic in order to marry Juan Carlos, thus relinquishing her right to the Greek throne.
Harry is not likely to marry a future queen regnant. If he were to marry a royal princess, she would most probably adopt the Anglican religion, although it is no longer required unless she is to be a future queen consort, and make sure all children are brought up in the Anglican religion, which is.

Yes, and in the past they more often did that than not. Marrying a foreign royal cemented alliances, so it might be done for political reasons, and another good point is that other royals or the aristocracy were often the only people they would meet socially.
Just look at it:
Queen Elizabeth II, married to a Greek prince
King George V, married to a German princess
King Edward VII, married to a Danish princess
Queen Victoria, married to her first cousin, a German prince
... and the list just goes on and on. Queen Victoria had nine children and she organised them all to be married off to foreign royals, so today all the European royal families are related.
It's only fairly recently that they've more often married middle class people. So Prince Harry could most certainly marry someone from another monarchy, and no doubt the wedding would be at Westminster Abbey - it would usually be in the man's home country, opposite to usual wedding tradition.

Of course a royal can marry another royal,it was always this way in the past, princes and princesses married to keep the royal family "pure" as they put it,in the past a princess would live in the prince's country, but there were exceptions of course, prince albert came to england from germany to marry queen victoria.Nowadays there are not too many princesses of the right age around for harry, and he can marry who he likes, within reason.

Yes, but as he is 4th in line to the Throne he needs the Sovereign's consent to marry (age doesn't play a part, Queen Elizabeth II needed King George VI's consent to tie the knot). This is only restricted to the first six people in line, so if Prince William has two more children, Harry drops to #7 and then he can do as he pleases.
The current Queen is married to another royal - Prince Philip was a Greek Prince before he married the Queen (she was a Princess at the time) and he renounced his Greek titles. One person usually has to renounce their claim to their Throne, however.
They can marry wherever they want, but it is usual to marry in the home country of the one who's doing the marrying - e.g. the Queen was married in England.

Yes, royal marriages used to be the entire basis of diplomacy a long while ago - Marie Antoinette, for example, was an Austrian Grand Duchess who was sent to marry the Dauphin of France when Austria and France became allies.
It's not common now simply because most monarchies already have truces. These ties and truces are what started the first world war.

Yes he can.
As he is over 25 he does NOT need the sovereign's consent to marry - this law is about to change but does not affect Prince Henry.
At one time it was the preferred arrangement - Queen Victoria got most of her children married off into various European houses with disasterous consequences - spreading Haemophilia through several dynasties. The supposed alliances and bonds did nothing to prevent the Great War and most were rendered moot by revolutions in Russia and Germany.
The Tudor Mary I of England married the catholic King Philip of Spain - the wedding was in Spain as men outrank women in royal circles. The present queen's husband is royal by birth (from the House of Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Gluckstein) - they married in London. Edward VII married Princess Alexandra of Denmark at Windsor, and George V married May of Teck in Buckingham Palace.
Depending on who is likely to succeed to their respective thrones, the wedding will be in that country, with a blessing in the other counttry.
Many European royal houses are still Roman Catholic. Until the latest reforms those who married Roman Catholics lost their place in the succession - the 300 year old law was phased out as part of a number of changes which affect the first six in line for the throne who require the sovereign's consent to wed. Should the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have more children Prince Henry's place in the succession will change as time goes on and may displace him from the top 6.

Definitely, that's what Royals did throughout history in order to make political alliances with other countries. Our own Victoria married a German Royal called Albert.

Stupid question. Obviously they can get married! They get married wherever the man lives, unless the woman is in direct line to the throne, like Princess Elizabeth was when she married PRINCE Philip...

Yes. You need to pay better attention in History class. It was only until recently that royals started marrying commoners.

Yes.
If it was prince harry, they would most likely get married in the males home country.
In fact, those kind of marriages are good, because they improve international relations.
