How often should I walk my dog?

I am getting a morkie(yorkie/maltese mix) who is going to be 8 weeks old when I get her within the next week and a half and am in need of advice as to how often and how long I should walk her?

At only 8 weeks, not at all. All she needs at this age is to get used to wearing her collar, and then the lead attached. She needs a vet check within the first 48 hours and for her vaccination and any worming needed, to be set up.

Is it too late to persuade you to abort contributing to the income of a BYB unless you are adopting from a Shelter? Only BYBs produce mix-bred puppies, and fact is what you'll be buying into is potentially a load of trouble. This breeding is unregulated, using untested pet stock. It's marginally encouraging that this puppy will be 8 weeks when you intend to get her, but that's about all. Please reconsider and contact the relevant Breed Club (Yorkshire Terrier or Maltese) and ask for the names of known reputable breeders and buy yourself a well-bred sound puppy. And reputable breeders will tell you all you need to know about feeding (diet), how much, and how much exercise when the puppy is old enough.

If you are adopting from a Shelter - well done!

A puppy should not leave your home until he/she has completed both rounds of puppy shots.

So the puppy should be around 12 weeks old before it is allowed to go for a walk.

Once they have had both sets of shots I would start slowly. A walk around the block would be good 2 times a day for 2-3 weeks.

And slowly work your way up from there I would say once she is an adult a walk 3 times a day for about 3/4 of a mile would be ideal

All dogs need walking once your little one is injected against all diseases then 3 walks a day are fine, why pop her into a designer bag? My son has a Yorkie she goes on a 1 1/2 mile round trip ( that's 3/4 mile there and 3/4 mile back) 3 times a day and loves it, she always does her toilets so he takes bags with him, does he feel daft with a little Yorkie no way because her walking mate is my son's other dog a Mastiff. Both enjoy their 3 walks a day.

Walk is a must when you talk about dogs. Prevents them from different diseases, especially stomach upsets. Will make them friendly as it will develop a habit of tolerating people around.
