Any ways to prevent arthritis?

So most of the women over 40 in my family have arthritis (mostly in the knees), and it is obviously hereditary. So there is a pretty good chance that I will get it one day too. I was just wondering if there is some way to prevent it, either with lifestyles or drugs, that I might want to start now.

Stay active, do weight lifting exercise, eat a healthy diet, if you are overweight lose the extra weight, drink plenty of water, don't smoke, don't overdo caffeine or alcohol, get enough rest. Arthritis is part of aging for many people and the best thing to do is to stay as healthy as possible overall.

Dear Chris, This is an age old question. Like , "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" You don't say how old you are. Cracking your knuckles...I'm going to assume you are a younger guy. O.K. then, think of it this way. --If you just broke your knee skiing yesterday, would you get back up on the slope today? --If your wife went to her closet and asked you if she was too big to fit into her favorite size 10 dress by summer,( but you KNOW she's a size 26) would you say ,"NO your a- - is just to plain@#% big for that dress? --Would you talk about, in front of your teenage son's friends , the first time he did......(fill in the blank) and top it off by ending the story with, "He's just my little Poo-Poo Bear." while squeezing his cheek? Then why wouldn't you think that cracking your knuckles would exacerbate the arthritis? Be kind to yourself. Love yourself. Stop making the synovial fluid that normally lubricates your joints and your poor little joints work harder to keep them functional a their best. Cracking knuckles is usually a habit, possibly a learned habit. Hmmmmmm!!!! Try substituting something, like a rubber band, in your hands, if you need to keep your hands moving. Whatever, you do be good to yourself. Take care now, and God bless The Dinosaur Lady
