What does it mean...?

Hello to everyone! I'd like you to give me a helping hand with this extract from an Obama's speech ; to be more precise,I need to know what the last part means (the one about the dog) :

"Sasha and Malia, before our very eyes you’re growing up to become two strong, smart beautiful young women, just like your mom. And I’m so proud of you guys. But I will say that for now one dog’s probably enough."

Is it a kind of idiom or something similar? In any case, how would you rephrase it?

Thank you!!

Update:

AAAHHH,yesss!! Oh my God, my mind must have gone completely blank!! I hadn't realized that "dog's" can also stand for "dog is"! XD Shame on me!!

Ok,thank you very much and I apologize for making you waste your time for this silly question!!

Yes, he changed thoughts (and therefore 'topics') between the two sentences. He praises his two daughters, and then (as a joke) he went over to something else: that he thinks owning one dog is enough.

It means that they don't get a new puppy.

    It was a joke.
