How much does it cost to fix a loose DC power jack on a Toshiba Satellite?

Let me start by saying that the jack isn't BROKEN like most of the other answers I've looked up, it's merely loose. The laptop still charges, but only if you put the charger in certain ways. And even then, it's a crapshoot as to how long it stays in the right spot. Maybe hours, maybe minutes, and sometimes even seconds. I heard Toshiba charges out the *** to fix a simple problem such as this, but my hands are too shaky for me to trust myself screwing around the insides of my computer. Any estimate would help greatly. (P.S., I also heard that this model uses pins to hold the jack in place instead of soddering like most other laptops)

Most shops seem to charge $75 - $125 for this repair.

It's simple, once you remove the motherboard. But that kind of teardown is a big deal, and very time consuming.

I did this repair on my Satellite, myself. 46 little tiny screws. About a dozen little tubs to help me keep the small parts organized. One of the toughest "tech" jobs I've ever done, and I've been playing with electronics for 40+ years.

$125 seems pretty cheap, to me.

If it is the Toshiba models I am thinking of they use a square slot made of plastic to hold the jack in place.

I have repaired 3 by using hot glue and holding the jack in place and re-enforcing the back side of the jack as the plastic holding it in place is broken.

You will have to take it fully apart to do this however. How comfortable are you doing this?

The "real" fix for this is to replace the entire bottom plastic of the laptop that will get you a new square box that the jack slides into.

See example below. Note the dc jack is the silver box, the plastic holding it in place is what breaks in some Toshibas

    Good luck!

"soldering" and replacing the jack isn't cheap because like most laptops they need to be taken apart almost all the way down to the motherboard to get at the jack to replace it. And yes some do use a plastic plug to plug where you simply unplug the old and plug in a new one. The part is cheap, the labor will be expensive unfortunately.
