phone # all 9s means what?

on my landline caller id i have gotten calls from 9999999999. no message is left. when i try to call back it says invalid #. i havent been home to be able to answer to see who is on other end. does anyone know where the calls can be coming from?

    It is a solicitor, bill collector, or political messenger. Many people have their system set to reject calls without proper caller ID. I suspect the 999999999999999 circumvents the setting.

    Ignore it. Some one is using caller ID spoofing software.
