What are the responsibilities of Christians today in dealing with inequality in America?

I am doing a research paper for my sociology class, and I need to interview someone who works full time in the ministry or someone who has been on mission trips. Here is the overall question:

1. In a time of increasing inequality in this country as evidenced by the growing income gap among other measures, what is the responsibility of Christians to address these issues?

2. How is this responsibility expressed in action?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

1). Christians should remain in their same goals of loving everyone unconditionally and spreading the message of Jesus. Our role is to be the example of what Jesus has given us. We are to love everyone regardless of their differences to us. We are not to worry about the income inequalities, as it represents the human condition. We are to instead seek to change the world with the words of Jesus and the attitude of peace and love towards everyone.

    2) I think as has been the case, Christians are still divided on whether we should become "political" or simply be an example of Jesus with few choosing the latter.

Well outside of America they try to help people in foreign countries with food on occasion while they are preaching to them.

There is no answer, as Christian fundamentalists love inequality, they want to be able to put the ten commandments in class, they want to be able to mandate forced prayer in school, they are offended that some people do not wish to say the pledge "on nation under god" because they are offended they have a right not to act as their religion thinks they should. They want to be able to take students to their church while not allowing them to be taken to mosques, they want people to acknowledge them over all others...
