Which water turbine design is the most efficient?

Out of the different types of water turbines such as the Pelton Wheel, Francis Turbine and the Kaplan Turbine etc. Which one is the most efficient?

    Basically bigger is better for efficiency and this gives the Pelton wheel an edge, but the Francis design is intrinsically more efficient.

    Turbine is dependent on the head and flow. Head vs. discharge charts are used for initial turbine selection. The Applegate Group web page at http://www.applegategroup.com/node/176 offers a concise explanation, along with head vs. efficiency charts for various turbine types.
