what do you think the history behind Thanksgiving is?

When I of Thanksgiving historically I still think of the Mayflower Pilgrims sitting at a long table with Native Americans. As I got older I learned that this seemingly ideal belief that two totally different cultures colliding in a friendly way was pretty much a lie. And knowing that Thanksgiving is really a slap in the face to Native Americans because by the time the Pilgrims arrived, most of the Native Americans were dead because of small pox given to them in a "genocide" way in my opinion. The only thing that is true about Thanksgiving is when the Pilgrims thanked God that all the Native Americans were dead....TERRIBLE have a great Thanksgiving

Actually, the Pilgrims & the Natives were not the first Thanksgiving. It wasn't even the first on this continent.

And the reason it became a holiday had nothing to do with Pilgrims; it had to do with a magazine editor writing letters for 40 years because she thought the industrial revolution was destroying family values, and she was trying to get a holiday established that revolved around hearth and home.

And Thanksgiving was certainly never an attempt at genocide. People didn't know much about microbes back then and certainly didn't know anything about vaccinations.

By your logic we have to give up Oktoberfest because of the Holocaust and Christmas because of the Inquisition.

We learned a lot from the Native Americans. That is how we learned to eat corn, make cornmeal, and live off what we had. We should be thankful to the Native Americans. No genocide was used. The Native Americans caught it because it was brought over by the pilgrims and they were not used to handling such disease.
