Very interesting question worthy of much more research than it currently receives. But are you asking what goes on PHYSICALLY or what goes on as far as concerning his/her THOUGHTS?

Much research has been performed as far as the brain's physical activity - generally seizures are uncontrolled burst of electrons - almost like a power surge on a computer. Mentally, the mind varies among individuals - but the majority of epileptics have NO awareness during the time of the seizure - it is as if one has blacked out for those few seconds. You might think of it as the instant during a scene change in a TV program - except that the actual time period may last longer depending upon the type of the particular seizure.

The minutes that follow a seizure might include some form of mental "recuperation" time - similar to the need to resume a steady flow of current. This may explain why a lot of seizures are followed by a deep sleep for a few minutes.

The CAUSE of epileptic seizures is a matter of continued research - some conditions have been identified but there are millions of epileptics whose seizures have no direct known cause. You might want to seek more detailed information of the subject from the American Epilepsy Foundation - check out their website.

Let me say this do not be afraid to go to a neurologist. I have a one year old who has seizures and it can be scary to watch at times. They have a lot health sites that you can search if you need the right answers.

But any type of seizures is pretty much triggered by nerves in the brain. The only thing going on is that you have a bunch of nerves fibers that are in a bundle. Things are just going to be hazy but do see a doctor.
