What's the hardest lead to keep in hockey?

One, two, or three? Just curious

What if you get no shots in the third period?

  • Sure glad Carlyle shored up the defence by benching Gardiner last night. That worked out great. Carlyle is a dinosaur. The Leafs, when they use their speed, are a dangerous team. When they try to protect a lead their possession numbers crater further and you get what happened last night. Pittsburgh drives possession as well as any team in the league. Let's think- either use speed to drive possession, or let the other team with the 2 world-class pivots drive that bus. However, to be fair I thought Bozak had a solid game and was good at both ends (as dire as he is at times have to tell it like it is).

4-1 is our new 2-goal lead.

Look, hate to point this out but Washington had almost 100 shot attempts on Saturday which was more than double what the Leafs had. The same Washington team that HAD PLAYED THE NIGHT BEFORE. The reason the Leafs got anything was because James Reimer was easily the best player on the ice. The advanced stats folks will tell you the Leafs are due for a MASSIVE regression.

Definitely 3, especially if it is 4-1.

That was a brutal end of game, I guess you could argue that it was MAF's suspect goaltending that spotted them the 3 goals. I don't know what the solution is, the goalies have to stand on their head each and every game when you are giving up 40 plus shots on almost a nightly basis.

The defense group collectively is horrendous, would Liles or Brennan be a better option at this point. Ranger/Gardiner are not inspiring much confidence. Reilley probably would have been better served going back down.

They say the hardest lead to keep is a two goal lead because when you give up one the other team has the momentum and can overtake you. That said I'd rather be up two then down two.

It's often been said that the two goal lead is the hardest to keep.

I also think that part of that saying is for the guys who are down by two.

When losing by two, that saying can keep a team fighting for that next goal. Then they know they're one shot away.

'Mathematically'- the most dangerous is 1 goal. '

Source(s): If you're pulling the goalie to try to tie the game. What's more dangerous of a lead, 1 goal or two.

Although they say it's 3, as hockey player for many years, the worst felling is being up 2-0 and getting scored on. Idk why, it's like, even tho youre still winning, you feel like they just tied it. It's weird.
