As a habs fan and Ottawa resident I end up watching a lot of Habs games and Sens games. I have my opinion on who I would choose and why. I am curious to see what everyone else thinks, assuming same contract, who would you rather have on your team and why? PK or EK?

LTIR relief only kicks in when a team is at the CAP. Ie if the cap is 64.3M and you have a player with a $4M cap hit on LTIR for the entire season. Your new total cap hit including the guy on LTIR is 66.3M so 2 million over before LTIR. That 66.3M includes a guy who's cap hit is $2m but 1 million is bonus? Assume the bonus is earned

How much cap relief do you get from the guy on injured reserve assuming no roster changes. LTIR relief is only for the excess but is it

a) 2m (66.3-64.3)

b) 1m with a 1m bonus overage for next year. ie salary cap $ excluding bonus - 64.3

I think it might be option B from reading the CBA but I am not sure. If that is the case then teams like Mtl and Toronto with guys using LTIR and significant bonus dollars (galchenyuk and Reilly) who are right up against the cap could be hit with a significant bonus overage hits next year.

The Leafs have two significant RFA's left to sign, last years no 6 overall point getter among NHL defensemen and a talented center who broke out last year with 44 points tieing him for 12th in the league in points as a centre.

The currently have 21 players signed (these 2 would fill out the roster 23 man roster) but only $4.9M of cap room to get it done. I think both will get resigned andsomeone-else gets moved to free up some $$.

That said if you were the leafs GM and you could only keep one who would it be?

He is being paid 1st/2nd line center but only being used in a third line role. There are still a lot of years on the contract and $$ should not be a problem for the leafs.

Assuming Komisarek gets bought out they still have one compliance buyout left- should they use it on Grabovski? someone else or not use it?

Assuming Komisarek gets bought out they will have about 23M of cap space to sign 12 players. Guys like Franzen and Kadri will command big raises. Bozak or a replacement for him will cost them. Bernier needs to be signed. Their cap situation is not as good as one would think.

Does anyone know if there is anything in the new CBA to prevent a team from buying out one of these onerous contracts and then resigning him themselves.

Take the Blackhawks and Hossa as an example. Hossa had a severely front loaded contract that runs to 2021. 3 yrs after this year at 7.9M, one at $4M and then $4 at 1 million. If Hossa retires before the end of that contract Chicago will be hit with a cap recapture for the benefit they rec'd in the early years when salary exceeded cap hit. If he retires at the end of 2017 the hawks will have a $5.5 M cap hit through 2021.

Is there anything to prevent the hawks from buying him out at the end of this year, Hossa will $21M of the remaining 31.7 he is owed. Then the Hawks resign him to a 4 year contract at say $3M per season. Hossa will get $33M total (21m plus 12m on the new contract) but only have to play 4 yrs. for an extra $1 million hawks remove the risk of retirement on the back end an reduce Hossas cap hit from its current $5.27M to $ 3M.

With the retirement of Lidstrom, is Detroit no longer seen as a choice destination with legitimate cup potential by the leagues free agents? Suter can judge better than most as he just beat them in the playoffs.

1) Stamkos 50 goals not in the playoffs

3) Kessel 36 not in a playoff spot
