The biggest fish are gone, it's gonna be a weak one. Iggy? Ribeiro? No one crazy
I like it. I know it is a lot of money to be tied up in two players, but they are elite players, the faces of the franchise. If one or both walked in free agency, they would be losing more than the actual players themselves. A big reason for the Ducks success this year is their depth. They are getting production from all 4 lines, it's pretty remarkable. With the two resigned, they have about 11-12M dollars in cap space with 5 players going to unrestricted free agency (Koivu, Selanne [TEEMU FOREVER], Steckel, Lovejoy, and Lydman) and 3 restricted (Palmieri, McMillan, Beleskey). They also have two compliance buyouts at their disposal if they choose to use them. Don't want to speculate on what they could do, but it's clear they cannot retain all these players. Not that they need to though. The cap for next year is set at 64.8, but based on what is ebing said about tv ratings, ticket sales etc, the cap will go up in subsequent seasons (not 2014-2015). By the time their deals expire, the salary cap could be close to 80 million.
Before, anyone says something about Perry getting "Crosby money," remember that his deal was signed under the old CBA, taking advantage of all the loopholes. Removing the BS years at the end of the contract (backloaded contract) and implementing term limit for resigning players, Crosby's deal is essentially 86.4M for 8 years, or a 10.8M cap hit. That is Crosby money.
