BQ given the injury troubles in recent years, who plays more games?
Tom, agreed philly had little choice to manage the cap. That said a d-man as backup goalie might not be a bad idea, they have a forward playing d in Streit. Seriously I think the overspent in both dollars and term on Streit. He is great at what he does but is very one dimensional. A rich mans Marc Andre Bergeron.
Phillys cap situation is not pretty for next year either. They have 10M coming off in Timmonen and Mezaros but will have to spend most of that to replace them you would think. Read will be UFA and due a raise or replacement, and both goalies become free agents. Assuming one of them shines he will need to be either paid or replaced. Plus giroux extension and raise kicks in next year.
I am not conviced that the cap is going up much if at all next year. We will need significant revenue growth and the recent decline in the Cdn dollar is going to hurt.
As too Briere, I think he may bring up the Habs average size at RW seeing as he is bigger than both Gionta and Gallaghe
oops cut off, I was adding that we need to stop drafting /signing so many pint sized forwards. one or 2 is okay but not 5 or 6
Leafsfan- agreed, we are looking at Doughty type money and term. Have to believe that the money Markov currently gets and the money Subban currently gets all goes to Subban next year.

The BQ is likely one of the biggest factors in the answer to the main question. Injuries are, of course, tough to predict, but I'll say Vinny plays more due to his size.
I'm wondering what Philly's depth chart is going to look like. Will Giroux, Lecavalier, Couturier and Schenn all play center? If Vinny ends up centering Simmonds and Schenn (Schenn playing the wing to move into the top six), I like him for 60 points, or prorated to however many games he plays.
I'll take Briere for 50, just because I can.

The problem isn't who scores more but who else would have to be gone for the Flyers to make cap. The two million difference in cap hit allows the Flyers to actually have two goalies. It would be awkward to go into every game with Pronger dressed as the back up. But Lecavalier will be more valuable on a team desperate for scoring prowess.
BA lets hope that both will have injury free seasons without the demands placed on them by their previous employers. Lecavalier could benefit by shorter shifts and will take to the physical game better than Briere. Briere will fit in with the rest of the Montreal Smurfs. Good speed no hit.

Depends on who MTL pairs Briere up with. He's still decent at driving possession (oh, and if someone ever tells you that possession stats are meaningless, point out that Boston and Chicago were in the top 3 last year and Chicago was #1 overall). Clearly he can't play the super-tough opp. minutes, but if they can get his zone starts up and pair him up correctly...it could be Briere. If I were a Habs fan, my concern is the size of the bank vault PK Subban is going to want after next year.
Same goes for Lecavalier. I think he'll get sheltered minutes.
I'd say Lecavalier...mostly because Briere's health record isn't that good of late.
