black friday is always the day after the american holiday of thanksgiving, which always falls on a thursday. on this day retail stores across america put out products at amazing discounts in an attempt to boost the sales of the christmas season and give it a jumstart. it is a massive ordeal filled with hundreds waiting in lines to get the best prices on the usually limited supply of items on major sale. i will give you an example, last year i got a $1200 dollar tv for $400 bucks, but they only had 20 to sell, sat in line for eight hours for it, so thats basically what its about, pjeople clamoring to get the best deals before they are gone.

Black Friday is a day where businesses try to recover whatever losses they had throughout the year by having sales in hopes of getting "in the black", which means they're making money. It sort of marks the start of holiday shopping in America. Canada and other countries have a similar day called Boxing Day.

In the US, it's the general name for the day after Thanksgiving. It's also the biggest shopping day of the year.

The closest equivalent in a lot of Commonwealth countries is Boxing Day, the day after Christmas.
