What kind of bathroom taps to buy?
I'm in an apartment and the taps I have are old. Hot water is delayed by 15-20 seconds, although the force of water is okay. To change the degree of hot water is another 20 seconds. The result is I burn or freeze my hands in washing them. What kind of faucet could I buy to fix this? The landlord won't fix it. How about a single faucet instead of taps, would that help?

I like Delta sink fixtures. Sounds like you have two separate spigots. That being the case your sink only has 2 holes for water fixtures. See if you can find a single handle set that will fit your sink. This way you can blend the cold with the hot and not scald yourself.

I don't see how changing the faucets would make any difference. They don't make the hot water; all they do is allow it to flow out of the pipes and into a sink. How fast the hot water gets to your faucets depends on how far away the hot water has to come from. If your water heater is right next to the sink, it will get there fast. If it is further away, it will get there later. If you run hot water and then shut it off, the hot water in the pipes cools off as it sits there. If you turn the tap on again half an hour later, the hot water coming from the heater has to push that cooled water out of the faucet before the hot water can get out. What you are experiencing is totally normal. It happens in my house. It has happened in every house I've ever lived in. The only way you can get instant hot water is to install what's called a "point of use" hot water heater. They need wiring to work. And in a rented apartment, you cannot do something like change a faucet without the permission of the landlord, who may, correctly, insist on doing it himself or having a licensed plumber do it.

This is not a faucet problem, in my opinion.
It seems like the initial how water temp is low due to the necessity of the water in the line to be expelled from the faucet prior to the hot water running through the pipes ---- and, when the hot water does get there, it's temperature is too high. Check the temp on the hot water heater as it may be too high.
In my house, water in the pipes have to travel across the basement and up the walls to reach the upstairs bath. So, naturally the water in the pipes are not hot until hot water pushes through the pipes. So, if the water in your house is set too high, then it needs to be lowered.

Our daughter has a similar situation. It was built in 2009,her taps do the same thing, frighten the life out of you when they do eventually work.In her flat the reason for this is because the water is pump driven, and there is no cure as far as we can ascertain.Do a bit of homework first, ask the neighbours, before you buy new ones, you may not need them.
