Anybody else find metal shavings in your oil during an oil change?
2012 Chrysler 200 Touring with 3.6 V6 Pentastar engine. I've changed the oil now four or five times and found metal shavings in the oil pan each time. Brand new drain pan. I would have thought that between the first oil change and the new filter that no more shavings would be found in subsequent oil changes. Anyone have any insight on this issue with the 3.6 Pentastar engine?
Thank you all so far but I'm asking if anyone has any specific information about this issue in regard to the 3.6 V6 Pentastar engine. I do see the one answer that mentions the Pentastar engine specifically. If I have to make a warranty claim with Chrysler I want to have all my facts correct. Especially if others have already resolved this issue.
I've seen the videos about this engine and they've done all the engineering work. They've run it on the test stand. They know how long it can run, it's life expectancy. I've never bought anything but American cars and always run them at least 200,000 miles with ZERO problems. If there's something wrong with just this one, then it was just one that slipped through the cracks. Thanks again for any advice you can offer.

Jeff C I have not figured out what's going on. Since then I have moved and for convenience I have had the dealer change the oil....so I don't know if they have been finding metal in the drain pan. But I am about to start doing the oil changes myself again and we'll see if this is still happening.

Metal shavings are always bad. Something in the engine is being ground down (I don't think it is bearings or rings, both of which will be obvious by now). Time to make a big stink about this at the dealer while it is still under warranty. Take a look at MikeLisa's post about the Pentastar in the source: "I'm on another forum and there is a couple that have had to have them replaced. From what I've read most are the early 2012's with the issue and I think it was from metal shaving being left in the motor." How is a Pentastar different from a pentagram? I don't know.

Its bad news and it means that the engine is internally shredding its self, and sooner or later the engine will either start making noise or it will fail.
Those cars are still JUNK all they are is a renamed Seabring they are not an "all new" car.
Chrysler thought they could pull a fast one on the American public by renaming it, but no its still the Seabring another one of their cars loaded with problems.

Go after tour warranty before it expires. Might have to have the engine oil flushed, by the dealer. And keep those records

Hi well that is normal as that is how an engine becomes worn out over time.
all engines do this from the day they are made it is how engines wear out.
