Moving to Wellington, New Zealand. Advice?
I'm a student moving to Wellington, New Zealand. I'm going to be working in Porirua 4 days a week but i was wondering is there anything that you would recommend doing on my days off that isnt too costly? I'm big into rugby and outdoor activities...anything that will give me a bit of a thrill really? Thanks

New Zealand has plenty of opportunity for you to indulge in rugby and outdoor activities. If you have the gumption to move to NZ from ... wherever, you didn't say, .... then you should be mature enough to find plenty of things to do once you are here.
If you are still stuck for things to do, and if you don't have mummy here to provide you with activities, then start by looking in the local paper. These are usually delivered free to all households and often have activities available in the classified section at the back. You could go down to the local rugby field on a Saturday morning or afternoon and chat to a member about joining (winter only). You could get a syllabus from your local high school for adult hobby classes. These have everything from sailing to cooking and are a good way to meet people. Usually one high school in each area has adult classes, but not all of them. Find out from your colleagues at your new job what they do in the weekend and try to get invited along. Join an ex-pat society for whichever country you came from to meet others like you. Stay in a local hostel to meet travellers and young people who might be interested in going to the pub or clubbing. Join a ski club, surf club or tramping (hiking) club.

I love Wellington ,Not porirua so much but I'm sure you will meet plenty of people that will give you many ideas on what to do. The NZers are friendly people. They are big on sports and adventure and you will come across plenty of opportunity to do many things there.
