Having problems with ants?
I have a few ant hills around the house, up against it. Right now there is not much problem for the weather, but in the summer I cannot leave anything in the counter in the kitchen or anywhere for they come up to it. my wife left a blouse with perfume on top of the bed and before we knew it there were there. What can I do?
By the way, I'm in Texas. In the Houston Area.

This is not the politically correct environmental answer, but PESTICIDES are your best solution. Spray, poison and eradicate wherever and whenever. Get into the crawl space under your house and look around too. Also inspect closely wherever there might be water, such as condensation on pipes. Ants love water and will often build nests in close proximity.
Good luck.

Hi Jorge,
A blouse with perfume? Wow! Those are some unruly ants! But...being serious, by far, the best product I've used for ants is by Terro. You can buy it in a spray, but I prefer to use the ant bait stations they have. They have the only LIQUID bait station approved for use inside the house. They also have outdoor bait stations, so you can cover both bases.
Right now the weather is also changing from warm to cool and back, so I'm sure every time it warms up....here come the ants! Good luck with this. Not a good problem to have, but these ant baits should help.

Use a multi-layered ant defense. Get the Terro shaker can or bag and shake it around your foundation in a 3 ft. perimeter. Spray your foundation and doorways with Ortho or Bayer home defense. Set up Terro outdoor ant baits. Finally, set up indoor ant baits (Raid or Terro) as a last line of defense. That's 4 layers of defense against ants, works for me. Also, don't bait and repel in the same area, they'll cancel each other out. I find the liquid ant baits work a little better than the solid ant baits.

Have you tried ant poison bait? I think their called ant hotels. You set up little plastic shells with a bait inside where you thinks the ants will be, like maybe in their trail. The ants identify it as food and take it back to the hill where they feed the food (secretly poison) to there queen and the rest of the hill. Try it. You imply that there are a lot of ants, check to make sure there is not an infestation.

Some ant powder or granules on the ant hills will give the ants something that they think is food to take into their nests in the hills. That way the thousands of ants and the queens will die and this will take some time.

WAIT! all these people giving advice and they do not know the continent, or the type of ants! Ants attracted to perfume?
The only advice I will give is to use powders containing diatomaceous earth. http://www.richsoil.com/diatomaceous-earth.jsp

Insect Dust/Diatomaceous Earth - It can be used indoors and out and is an effective natural insecticide. Insects coming in contact with it die of dehydration within 48 hours. It's made of fossilized marine diatoms (hardshelled algae) ground to talc-fine powder.

What ever attracts the ants, get rid of it. Baits only attract them and sooner or late they will adapt. You cannot outwit mother nature. Try to adapt. Make it less desirable to them.
