Guitar effects - digital multi FX v single pedals?

I've currently got a zoom g3 which i use for all effects. But i've heard alot of people complain that digtal overdrives and distortions simply are nowhere near as good as single pedals.

Would I be better off getting a stand alone overdrive pedal, but keeping the zoom g3 for reverb and delay effects.

For example. A digitech bad monkey overdrive (similar to tubescreamer - gets very good reviews)

Would the difference in sound be great?

this debate will rage for eons.....single seprate pedals vs multi effects pedals...

i'll speak for myself and say that there is NOTHING like the sound of a tube drive...nothing...while i happen to favor Fender and Marshall, i will NEVER use another drive pedal....as for the other effects...

if im using heavy effects i will use the loop on my marshall. that loop keeps the effects seperate from the preamp..if im looking for simple and clean....my Deville all day...that tube drive is orgasmic...

you will find what you like...i found mine...GL

Main instrument is an Ibanez Rickenbacker copy. I bought this when I first left school, with the intention of buying a proper Rickenbacker when I got enough money, but I have been playing this instrument for so long now that I don't think that I could part with it. I also have a couple of old Italian mandolins that I play occasionally, one with an Ibanez Bug taped to it. The plan here is to get a Rob Armstrong mandolin and learn blues mandolin. Amp wise, I have a Fender BXR 200 which I use for the mandolin as well as the bass. At the time I bought it, Ashdown bass amps were big news, but when I tried one, I couldn't really get a sound that I wanted. My effects unit is a Zoom 506, though I rarely use it.

Have you watched John Butler, Carl? - He's worth a look as he uses pedals for an eleven string acoustic.
