Does hugh jackman die in prisoners?

hi i just watched the film prisoners and was confused. i was wondering if hugh jackmans character die? Also is there going to be a sequel to the movie?

    It isn't clear - the ending is ambiguous. The suggestion is that he survives, since he uses the whistle that he instructed his daughter to use if she was ever in trouble. Yet he is seriously injured and consigns himself to death in the last scene in which we see him. I guess it is up to the viewer to decide. I doubt there will be a sequel.

    The Prisoners screenwriter says no he didn't. They shot him being rescued but thought just leaving it the way they did was more effective.
