What kind of hardy plants can I have with Goldfish?

Hello :)

Current set up is a 55g tank with black sand substrate, canister, HOB filter, and lights; nothing fancy just what the fish need. Two fancy Goldfish. One Moor one telescope. Both are doing great in the tank.

What kind of plants can I have with my Goldfish?

Ones that are hardy and that Goldfish don't eat. I feed my Goldfish fresh (boiled) veggies so they won't disturb the plants. At least that what I am hopping for.

Was thinking to get some Frogbit as the floater since the 55g is deep.

I would like to stay away from Java Ferns if possible. They are pretty, but they are hard to grow; in my tank (the dosing is a pain along with trimming). I want one that is simple to keep. I thought about anubias, but I am not sure if they would work with Goldfish (I have them in the fresh water tanks).

I also thought about swords, but my black sand is not a rich substrate it is just black sand so would I be able to add root tabs for the swords?

I want easy low light plants that do not need anything to grow but just standard lighting. Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks

There are many plants you could have and if the Goldfish do eat them some of them will grow back.

Elodea(anacharis)- very hardy plant, grows back quickly if being eaten

Java fern- do not plant in gravel, tie to driftwood or rocks with rubber band, tastes yucky to goldfish.I know you said you did not want Java fern .

anubia- slow growing but hardy, strong plant.

duckweed-very hardy plant, a real treat to goldfish but grows back fast

Goldfish can be hit and miss with plants but a friend of mine manages to keep goldfish with some of the above plants floating plants tend to be Better .

Good luck with the plants and hope your Betta fish is still doing ok .

christmas moss- hardier then moss, but more slow growing.

My goldfish demolished the frogbit I put in my tank, the just ate all the roots straight away...you could try duck weed, they will eat it but it grows very fast

Elodea is a really good plant for goldfish also.

Java moss is easy to grow aswell, you can just let it float of tie it down to a rock/drift wood or make a nice carpet and it will grow along the bottom of the tank, easy and looks really nice :)

I use java fern/moss. They eat it much less than other types of plants. These plants are also very hardy and require little light. Moss balls are fun because they chase them around but can't get a good grip. It's like watching a mini soccer match lol.
