What is Time?

Time is a construct of the human mind to explain the fact that things change.
Any really good encounter group will bring you inexorably to the fact that it is always "right now". The design function of the human mind is to continually predict what the next now will be, based on a full record of other nows.
Hence, the illusion of time. We don't think that there is time, we ARE that there is time.
Source(s): That's a philosophical cut at it, I think it's useful to ask the Science guys for an empirical explanation. For instance, it turns out that the universe is digital, not analog. Things change in tiny increments, on the order of 1/10E-43 second! - Larry RLv 68 years ago
According to Wikipedia "Time is a dimension in which events can be ordered from the past through the present into the future, and also the measure of durations of events and the intervals between them" (It's actually a really good article, you should read it).
In any case, some philosophers think that time is a construct of the human mind (Rick explains this well). However if I recall my Relativity Theory correctly, time is just another dimension along with the three spacial dimensions. This means things can get interesting with time when you start studying Relativity. For one, if you start approaching the speed of light, from your point of view time will slow down, and time can also be messed with by a strong enough gravity field.... but that's to complicated to explain here.
I'd check out wikipedia on the subject.

Wow, no small question and in the wrong category.
What we call time is a question answered in philosophy, psychology and physics. Religion (superstition) has nothing useful to say on the subject.
