Why do I almost twitch when I feel someone about to touch my skin?

It's so weird, even when someone is about to tap me I can feel their finger from a few centimetres away and my nerves feel weird and I want to twitch. But when I poke my arm or something it doesn't feel weird.

When you poke your arm or something, either it happens so fast that you wouldn't have time to twitch anyway, or you can anticipate pretty much when the contact will occur because you are initiating it, or both.

The twitching occurs because you are expecting contact "soon", but the time frame is too long for your body to stay in "wait mode". If someone taps on you in a regular rhythm, you will not twitch. It is not knowing reasonably close to when the contact will occur that messes with you and makes you twitch.
