Does AR500 steel get brittle in cold weather?

I bought a bunch of !/2" thick AR500 steel targets in the spring and I shot at them all summer and through the fall. I'm wondering..... now that it's cold outside (gonna be -9 here tonight).....does that type of steel get too brittle to shoot at in cold weather?

No. And when rounds hitting those targets they can actaully heat up quite quickly.

Not that I know of. Might want to ask the AR500 guys, especially considering they make body armor plates out of the stuff (I have a set) -- I'd probably want to know that, too.

I'm going to say "probably not."

But now I'm inclined to ask, as well.

Every degree in temperature change will affect the molecular structure of steel, however, -9 will have very little effect. The human body....yes, but go ahead and shoot. The lubrication in your gun will be more prone to thicken and slow the action down. SO...NO.

Seeing that steel freezes at around 2500 deg F cooling it 2430 below its freeze point to 70 deg F or cooling it 2509 degrees below its freeze point should not really matter.
