Cursive is no longer being taught in the US. Is this a sign of the times?
Or is it further evidence of a deteriorating education system?
I was astonished to learn this today. I find it disturbing. Our education system already falls way behind MANY other countries. How will personal signatures change?
Sorry Kijjit, I found out from more than one source that as of this year, cursive is no longer a part of the curriculum.

That's the same thing I was thinking awhile back before I started this school year. Later on our English teacher told us that we had to write everything in cursive the whole school year and everyone was like; "What the hell, i've never written cursive in my life". I actually felt pretty amused by this since I learned cursive easily just because I was trying to copy how my Grandma wrote.
And from your question, in my opinion. It doesn't really deteriorate education systems but the teachers just don't have enough time to teach this since now teachers from elementary to middle are trying to emphasize more on (State you are on)CAT materials since it mostly affects several teachers across the U.S. For high school, some teachers just don't care that much and the ones that do focus on how well you do rather then if you write cursive or print.
Btw, signatures are mostly the only sign of writing which is still alive for cursive and trust me. I've seen some pretty wicked signatures (none of them cursive).
Hope this mostly answers your question

I am a teacher. I learnt cursive in school and have never used it since. It is made for writing quickly, the amount of actual writing I do compared to typing makes it not even worth doing. It is harder to read and only saves a little time. If you were writing all day it would be worth it but honestly it is barely used in real life anymore. You can sign your name however you want it doesn't have to be a fancy cursive masterpiece, most are unreadable swiggles anyways.

False. They ARE still teaching cursive in schools. Maybe not all schools but in the grand scheme of things does it really matter if they teach block printing or cursive as long as they can write legibly? ?

It may not be in the curriculum but some teachers do still teach it.
