My mom grounds me from internet?

She turns off the internet by unplugging something outside in the At&T box on the side of the house. It's so annoying because she does it out the blue and I pay the bill with my own money from a job a work at. How can I find out what she did? It's not the router it's something outside. Please help!

    Hey Addison,

I may be wrong but I think your mom "MAY" be fooling you.

Do you loose anything else with the internet?

    Phone , TV?

Regular cable & Fiber Optic, (like FIOS) BOTH use ONE single coaxial cable.

One cable runs from the street to the box that is mounted on the side of the house.

One single cable feeds the phone, the TV , & the internet.

This cable runs into the box & then the box splits it into 2 signals.

ONE signal for phone, then ONE more that gets split in half itself, for the TV /internet

So if she did it outside, you would lose more than just the internet.

The one for the phone usually goes from the main box, then into the cellar and connects to another smaller junction box.

This is so you can connect 1 phone or a lot of phones

The one for the cable/internet, is a single cable that comes out of the box, but then it goes to a splitter.

That splitter has the1 cable going in, and then 2 coming out.

From those 2 cables coming out, 1 goes to the router, & 1 to the cable TV box.

Again, if she did it outside you would lose both

So she may want you to think it's outside so you won't look inside.

    Or

If she has a laptop, then she can even go into any room by herself , then access the routers webpage and then put a hold on the mac address of your computer.

She can set a schedule on it to be done any time , any day.

What you should do is look at the box when it is plugged in and take notice of where all the wires are connected. Then comeback when she pulls the plug and see what has been changed. When you do plug it in again make sure she doesnt know you did it. What you want to do is plug it in so that you can have time to do what you need to do, the go unplug it so it will last.

Watch her when she does it... You'd think it's simple enough...
