Would you prefer a Walther PP or a Makarov pistol?

They seem so close in design and potential performance, it's eerie.

I have had two Mod PP's. One is a Walther and the other (which I sold) was a Manurhin. Both are ex-West German police pistols in 7.65 (.32ACP). The Manurhin factory was set up by Walther in France during WWII and the firearms produced there are virtually identical to their Walther counterparts, although the fit and finish tends to be marginally better on the Walthers. Both pistols are very accurate and shot to point of aim with hard to see fixed sights. The only reliability problem I had with either pistol was a feeding problem with the Manurhin, which turned out to be a bad mag. I never had a chance to shoot a Makarov though I've handled a few. If fit and finish tell a story I'll stick with the PP's although the price definatally makes the Russian look attractive.

Considering the Makarov is a blatent copy of the Walther and considering the Walther is bette made I'll go with the Walther.

Uh, Not to knock them. No, i will. Small gun engineering has moved past 1930 you know? The Walther PPS is a prime example. Lighter, thinner, Ambidextrous controls, locked breach design, in a real stopping caliber, & cheaper to build.

    So neither.......

Yeah @WTANGH, and most modern handguns are blatant copies of something John Browning designed.

I marginally prefer a .380 ACP Walther PP.
