How to check the computer of OS Linux?

I will be awarded with a laptop of operating system Linux.So there may be some default in it, how to check it at that time. I have not use Linux before.

HP laptop

OS Linux

Ram - 4 gb

Hard disk-500gb

Graphics card-1 gb

    start the the laptop press F10 to enter in to BIOS you can check there..

    Unless you actually want a linux laptop, buy an OS you have used before and install it.

    Linux has its own diagnostics, depends on WHICH version of linux you get.

    What version? Is that what you want?

    It is not in the BIOS.

    It varies, but it usually in some file called lsb_release, debian_rellease, in /etc.
