Dog wakes up in the middle of the night and stares at something. Strange or normal?

My beagle is a wonderful mush who sleeps through the night easily with me and always comes when called. She's about middle aged and in the more relaxed stage of beagle life, lazy and sleepy and all about food and belly rubs. Lately, however, I have noticed that my usually obedient pooch with a fondness for sleeping long hours keeps waking up in the middle of the night and going to stand in the middle of the bedroom floor, to stare at something I can't see behind me. Always in the same position on the floor, always staring in the same direction, not even acknowledging me when I call her. She doesn't seem distressed and doesn't make any noise. She just stares for at least fifteen minutes before eventually returning to bed and falling asleep. I find it odd and now a little creepy. I've seen if she needed the bathroom and checked to make sure everything was all attached securely and looking healthy, and even on an empty bladder-boom, there she sits and stares. And ignores, which is the real kicker, because she loves the sound of her name being called. Any other dog owners noticing this?

Dogs have a very acute sense of hearing.

Dogs hear a frequency range of 40 to 60,000 Hz while a human range is between 20 and 20,000 Hz.

So maybe your dog hears something that you don't hear. Dogs get easily distracted. Which causes them to ignore other (owners).

Like my dog when it hears something his ears are up, he's standing up, and not moving. This is a sign of your dog focusing strictly on the distraction.

I would recommend that you try to find out what he is distracted by.

But you should also have your dog checked out for safety reasons.

My German Shepherd used to do something similar. He would look past me, to the wall and stare intently at something that I wasn't aware of. Maybe there's a mouse or a small critter of sorts in the wall that only a dog could hear?

Could be petite seizures. Not sure of the spelling. But if that is what it is the vet could give her medicine before they get worse.

untreated they might get worse and become grande mal seizures.
