  • What would you say to a friend who's dog died?

The dog hasn't died yet but it going to be soon because of age etc. He has had the dog for a long time and takes good care of it. But he is an older man who is a good friend so I'm unsure what to say when the dog goes.

  • Any one hear about a Golden Retriever saving a boy from a cougar. British Columbia Canada?

Heard a short news clip on the radio but didn't hear exactly where. Then I never heard it again. Too bad they don't give as much press coverage to this as more negative stories.

  • Did you ever see a dog headbutt another dog?

My friend has a few health problems and sometimes uses a walker. Her dog is 1/2 Border collie 1/2 Newfoundland (named Max). We were in her back yard yesterday when the neighbors dog came up behind her. Right away Max ran over and rammed his head into the other dog. The other dog turned and walked away. A second time a different strange dog came towards us when walking. Same thing, headbutt and the dog walks away. In both cases there were no growls, fighting or teeth shown. The other dog just got the message and walked away. She claims he did it once before. I was so impressed that Max got his message over in such a good way. Did you ever see a dog do this?

  • Question regarding Pit Bulls.?

This question was inspired by another pit bull question. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnYhL...

When ever pit bull bans are mentioned people say "ban the owner". Obviously you can't ban people. My suggestion was charge a high tax / license fee on ownership with perhaps the dog needing to have a special tag visible. Any dog without the tag would be taken and the owner has to pay the high fine to get them back.

This is not a perfect solution and would make it a bit more difficult for good owners. But at least they could keep their dogs. I think it would eliminate at least some or maybe a lot of the people who have pits to make them selves feel macho or the people who want them for other illegal purposes.

Does anyone have any better solution than to just say "ban the owner"?

  • How often should I bath my dog?

He is a Pomeranian. We often go walking on trails and he sometimes gets a bit dusty or muddy. But I don't want to bath him too often and dry out his skin.

  • How big should five week old German Shepherds be?

Advertisement for local SPCA tonight showed what they said were five week old German shepherds. But they were as big as a large house cat. I am thinking they meant five months.

  • Are you any ones favorite person?

I just seen this video on you tube

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t-5PLQgcSA&feature...

and it got me thinking. A lot of us don't have a person or don't know of one who thinks of us as their favorite person. It seems we are in too much of a hurry or too afraid to know any one. But to our dogs and cats we are their favorite person. Maybe thats why having a pet is important. Agree or disagree?

  • Pet land and similar type pet stores what happens to the pets that don't sell?

The price they charge for a dog when you can get one for free at the SPCA is terrible. The one at the SPCA would likely be healthier and not from some puppy mill. They say there is a sucker born every day. But that’s not my question. In any store there are always some things that don't sell. What happens to the dogs and cats that don’t sell in Pet land?

  • Microsoft works 6.0 backup disc will it work on my new computer.?

I have the works back up disc from my old window xp. Thought I would try to install it on my newer (vista) computer. Got as far as the license agreement but I'm unsure if I should continue. It says the disc should only be used with the original computer. What will happen if I click that I agree with the terms of the license even knowing that its not the original computer? Will it damage my computer?

  • Which small breed(s) are best around children.?

Best breeds of dogs for kids under 10 years. A friend offered to buy my pom today. Mine is not for sale and not really the best around kids. I told him I would try to help him find a dog. Its for his son who is under 10 years old. I will probably try to tell him about the animal shelters. But having a breed type in mind would help.

  • Abandoned cat going to new home. Fur badly matted.?

We found a home for this cat that has been around our neighborhood for quite a while. She is very badly matted. We want to do all we can to help this new owner and make the cat comfortable. It is far too matted to be able to comb out. I have some pet clippers. Should I cut off all the matted fur? It is still cold where we live but I think he intends to keep her inside.

Also, see my other question regarding this same cat.

  • Abandoned cat going to new home. What should we tell the new owner.?

Some *** left their nice cat behind when they moved away 6 months ago. Some of us have been feeding her and trying to provide warmth during the cold. I would keep her but I have a old cat and a dog. I'm sure its been an indoor cat because it will walk right in. She is really friendly, She comes up to everyone and rubs against them. She seems to prefer being outside. We now have found a nice person to keep her. He is a first time cat owner and wants her to be a indoor cat. Questions are. She has been declawed and it looks like brutally done. It looks like someone chopped off the ends of her feet. She can walk fine but won't let you touch her feet. Will she have problems in the future because of this? She is badly matted (see separate question about this). She is over weight. I don't know if she is litter box trained. Is she a good cat for a first time owner and what advice should we give him considering all the above? What should we ask him to make sure he is sutable?

  • Did you ever get a dog that wasn't the one you wanted but became the one you needed.?

When I moved to where I am now I planned on getting a dog. I always had big ones before and planned on a medium to larged size dog. Anything but a small one. Then my neighbor came along with a Pomeranian that had been abused previously. They couldn't keep it they already had three dogs and I had none, so I took him. At first he was so cranky and snappy I thought we would never get along. Slowly, very slowly he grew on me. After getting him fixed and trained and medical stuff, he calmed down a lot. He is just the right size for riding in the car with me, likes the same length walks, hes good with my cat and he likes my lap. What made me write this now. A couple days ago he got out and got lost. It was 35 below with wind but I searched for hours. After 18 hours I found him with some help. Some people had taken him in. While he was gone I realized he is the most perfect dog I could have. Did anyone else ever get the wrong dog that turned out to be the best one?

  • Dog toenail?

I am looking after my neighbors dog. It is a 15 year old shih tzu. He has one bad toenail, on the back foot. It is over an inch long and curves around almost to the pad. But does not touch the pad as far as I can tell. And it is quite thick almost like a double nail. All the other nails are normal. I have a dog nail clippers that I use on my dog, and I can see the quick on my dogs nails. Should I cut this dogs long nail or am I going to hurt him?
