Did you ever get a dog that wasn't the one you wanted but became the one you needed.?

When I moved to where I am now I planned on getting a dog. I always had big ones before and planned on a medium to larged size dog. Anything but a small one. Then my neighbor came along with a Pomeranian that had been abused previously. They couldn't keep it they already had three dogs and I had none, so I took him. At first he was so cranky and snappy I thought we would never get along. Slowly, very slowly he grew on me. After getting him fixed and trained and medical stuff, he calmed down a lot. He is just the right size for riding in the car with me, likes the same length walks, hes good with my cat and he likes my lap. What made me write this now. A couple days ago he got out and got lost. It was 35 below with wind but I searched for hours. After 18 hours I found him with some help. Some people had taken him in. While he was gone I realized he is the most perfect dog I could have. Did anyone else ever get the wrong dog that turned out to be the best one?

oh ya. two years ago just before new years i came home from my grandads and announced to my boyfriend that we were getting a dog. he could choose it, but we were getting one, period. ive always liked big huge fluffy dogs. and i cant tollerate constant yapping, so i told him "no little dogs, no barky dogs, but you choose" i was really hoping for a husky, or akita, or even something like a bloodhound. even a lab or a retriever.

he came to work at lunch one day with a pitbull cross. she had obviously just had puppies recently and had scars on her face, and a golf-ball sized lump on her head right in front of her ear. i kind of shot him a funny look. the dog kept her tail between her legs and almost hid behind him when anyone approached, but she said hi to me ok, and gave the tail a little wag.

i really wasnt sure, but when he told me she was found at the local tim hortons (canadian for dunkin donuts) lost and starving trying to stay warm between the double doors in the middle of december, i thought we would give her a chance.

he had signed her out on a day pass only, so we spent that lunch on a walk with her. when we got back in the truck for me to go back to work, she leaned over and gave my b/f a a big sloppy kiss. i was pretty much sold, but the cat hadn't met her yet.

now this cat has attacked every dog in this house, so i wasnt sure. the dog met the cat, they touched noses once, and have gotten along famously since.

after the two week period waiting for her previous owners to claim her, we took her home. she had the lump removed, and looked like a franken-dog with all those stiches across her head. being a pittie, some of our friends and family were kind of scared of her at first, but she was so docile and sweet. she looked like an ogre and acted like a princess.

we've had "Fiona the ogre princess" for over two years now. our friends and family dote on her, and i couldnt see my life without her.

we still go to that tim hortons lots, but now shes toasty warm in the back seat of the car, and they feed her "tim-bits" (donut holes) off the end of the stir stick at the drive thru window.

im really glad for you that your best friend is home and safe and warm too.

YES! I went to the pound to get my son a dog when he turned 8. There were hardly any dogs that fit the catagories I was looking for. I "settled" on one dog because I really wanted my son to have one for his birthday. That dog ended up being the most loving, loyal, friendly animal. Once I had to have a surgery, and she lay across the threshold of my bedroom door and followed anyone who tried to come near me while I was recovering, and I know she knew I was wiped out and was caring for me. My dog ended up dying of cancer a few years ago, and I still miss her so much.

My dog Jack. We were looking for a border collie, and Jack, well, the only thing border collie about him is his coloring. But he needed out of the shelter he was in and he came home with me. He was starved and depressed and had been beaten by someone but he's turned into the best dog. My husband tells me it's sick how much the dog loves me :)
