  • Plan for climate change just to err on the side of caution?

I was taught that if you plan for worst all your course suprises will be pleasant ones. Why do we rarely hear this logic applied to climate change and peak oil?

The worst that could happen is that we would be eating healthy local food, using renewable energy, getting more exercise walking and biking. We would enjoy local economies, more supportive communities. most changes needed would be good for us anyway.

I do not understand why there is such opposition to change? What are your thoughts?

  • toys for rats- creative xmas presents?

I have two lovely girl rats that live in a nice terrarium (ironically previously occupied by a snake) and I am stumped for christmas presents for them.

I know, it is silly, it is not like they KNOW they should get a present, but if the dog and the cats get presents, the ratties should too.

they have a "log cabin", a "sewer pipe" and a box with holes cut in it for cage fun. I tried wooden chew toys last year and they were not exactly fans. they have a monster ferret ball, but still not fans. they have a nice carrier for outings...

if anyone has some cool creative ideas, please let me know!

  • I refilled my ink cartridge, but the printer still says it is empty?

I have a lexmark 2650 with a #14 black cartridge. I got it professionally refilled, but the printer still thinks it is empty. I have rebooted the computer, unplugged and repluged the printer, and printed multiple test pages. I refuses to print in black, even though the cartridge is obviously full (ink comes out the bottom when dabbed on a piece of tissue)

does any one know how to override the empty cartridge message, or how to make the printer realize the darn thing has ink in it? pls help.

  • Does anyone have anything good to say about being employed at walmart (store level)?

our town is in the middle of the walmart battle, and I had a discussion with someone at my work about whether a walmart should come to our town (along with a future sh** and a homely despot) I am against it as you can tell, and I was telling him all the reasons I disagree with the walmart corporate greed and why i don't feel our community would benefit from their low wages low prices low morals way of doing business. he said we always hear the bad, and never the good. so does any one here have anything positive to say about their walmart job? and how long have you been there, and what is your position, hours and if you don't mind, wages?(optional)

  • why does the parent with custody get tax deductions while the parent paying support gets none?

if parent A has custody, but parent B pays child support, which in theory, should cover most of the expenses involved in raising a child, then why does parent A get to claim the child as a dependent, when the child is obviously dependent on income from parent B?

  • need to validate a copy of windows xp on a 4th hand lap top.?

We bought a laptop 4th hand and of course when windows was installed 4 owners ago it worked. it worked for the next two owners, and worked for us for almost a year now. a week ago, all of a sudden, it decided that this was an invalid copy of windows. i still have a prompt for updates for windows, but have no desktop back ground and everything is really slow

im technologically impared, is it possible i deleted something i shouldnt have? any way to fix this without buying a new copy of windows?

i know all the previous owners, im pretty sure none of them upgraded from the original copy of windows, as the original owners name is still the only listed user

  • does this smack of racism? honest opinions pls?

this is a quotation from an article in our local paper directed at the 2008 grad class from a regular columnist. I am going to be writing a letter to the editor, but before i do i would totally appreciate some outside opinions

from mall arkey, published in lakeshore news june 2008

    "

The second problem you’ll face is demographic. Canadian couples are having an average of only 1.6 children, which means that the population will soon begin to decline unless we take in hundreds of thousands of new immigrants each year. Since most other industrialized countries are in the same demographic boat, the most likely places to supply the immigrants will be overpopulated places with high birth rates. Guess where those places are. If you want the country to be recognizable when you apply for your Old Age Pension, you’d better get married and have three or four kids."

this was published in a town reckoned to be the most racist town in canada in the mid 1990's as per mcleans mag

  • hints and tips for raising a rat.?

we are about to bring a rat into our menagarie in about 8 weeks. we have two cats that are kinda nuts and a dog that is docile. i need advise on the location of the cage, feeding, socializing, etc. Im sure the dog will like it, no prob there. is there any way to make the cats like it? or just keep them locked up when its out?

games or toys? should i buy male or female?

the other option is a lizard. my ex had leopard gekkos, and they were pretty boring. id prefer a rat (for 6 yr old birthday, two adults to keep, her mom wont let her have any pets)

  • liver disease in dogs... treat ideas?

i work at a dog friendly lumber yard, and many of our best customers bring their dogs in on a daily basis and we always have lots of milkbone brand cookies for them. Every dog that has been to our store more than once runs to all the counters to get cookies from each department.

one of the best is named timmy, and he is a sweet, lovable pitbull that adores all the attention, and simply needs his cookies. he was recently diagnosed with liver disease and put on a special diet by the vet. his owner is devastated, but timmy still wants his treats. we dont want to hurt his feelings but we want him to be around for as long as he can.

if anyone has any liver disease friendly recipes (recipes for people can work too! i can modify) for cookies, i would like to bake timmy some and give his owner the recipe for at home

  • single people getting short changed at work?

i remember reading an article years ago that single, childless workers get less from their employers than marrieds with kids. it said that when it comes to medical and dental benifits, the employer pays out much less to a single than they will to someone with dependents. also, it is easier for an employee with kids to get time off or avoid overtime without repercussions since the management is more likely to sympathize with the need to go home and care for the children. also, when raises or promotions are available, people with families to support are more likely to get them "because they need it"

Is this true in your experience? and do you think its fair? your thoughts....

  • a happy population balance?

the UN projects the world population will hit 10 billion by 2200. your thoughts?

-can the planet support 10 billion? (we seem to be having issues now)

-if you think no to the above question: without infringing on human rights, is there a way for world governments to discourage people from having lots of children while still helping those who do need financial support for the children they have?
