Practice, man, practice! It takes a thousand hours before you start to feel like you know what you are doing, and another thousand before anybody would want to listen to you. If you practice four hours a day you can get to that level in about two years.

It takes a lot of practice, (some people have a natural knack for it) but if you keep playing consistently for an hour or more a day, you start to have a sense of where to put your fingers to produce certain notes. It then becomes on a level that isn't quite conscious just like you can type without looking at the keys or even thinking about where you are putting your fingers necessarily. Don't give up on it though.

Take another lessons with your teacher related to pitch training. It's major topic and requires years of practice. There're various ways how to train the pitch. It requires efforts and patience. But it's possible to play everything by ear.
