Grade 9 Math problem? fractions and exponents?

In math, is (-3/2)^2 the same thing as -(3/2)^2 ?

If it's not, could you please explain and solve both equations (step by step?) Thanks so much!

    no

    (-3/2)^2 =

    (-3/2)(-3/2) =

    9/4

    -(3/2)^2 =

    -1 * (3/2)(3/2) =

    -1(9/4) =

    -9/4

    PEMDAS

    parenthesis

    exponents

    multiplication

    division

    addition

    subtraction

    so first you do parenthesis

    then you do exponents

    then you do mult/div

    then add/subtract

    (-3/2)^2

    first u do parenthesis

which means 3/2 = 1.5 or don't touch it at all

then u do subtraction - or don't touch it at all

    then u do exponents

    so -3/2 times -3/2 = 9/4

    next one

    -1 times (3/2)^2 = -(3/2)^2

so first u do parenthesis, exponents, mult, sub

    3/2 times 3/2 = 9/4

then multiply by -1 to get -9/4

    no, both are different

    (-3/2)^2=-3/2*-3/2

    =+9/4

    -(3/2)^2=-(3/2*3/2)

    =-9/4
