What do you think of the chinese space program?

In my opinion, they are doing it to impress their people and the other nations. Maybe they are also doing all that for a military purpose.

Better to spend money and national prestige exploring space than on weapons systems.

A little communist competition has always done wonders for NASA funding.

I think they need to spend their time on more important things... like lessening the pollution in the air that is causing serious health problems for their people. Their economy is already great. Why waste money on a space program that can be postponed later. They have a good list of problems to address themselves- some that needed to be addressed years ago and were caused by foolish actions that could have been avoided. They are not impressing anyone, they are just showing that their still can make foolish decisions that won't benefit them. Nobody in the other nations will care, in my opinion. They won't be strongly supported either. It's like a student who has a big project to finish and instead of doing it they are putting it off to play video games. It's a waste. China needs to wake up and see where their priorities lie. It's definitely not in space.

  • What nation doesn't use their national space programs to impress, including showing their military prowess?

Since that first or second manned orbital flight I really haven't heard too much else.

Politicians tend not to be scientists, and selling them on space exploration is easier said than done. Getting funding all too often requires turning it into some kind of spectacle or selling a military aspect.

If you can put an object into orbit then you can drop a warhead anywhere on the planet.

At the same time it is superb propaganda for just how advanced they are.

All space endeavors are militaristic, specially the ones from the USA and Russia.
