You are wasting money...
Try Malwarebytes and Avast.
Both program get along with each other and are awesome. Malwarebytes you can get for around $20 and Avast offers a free one year trial version and I think I paid around $30 for this years' subscription.
Google them and see for yourself.
And DO NOT allow Norton or Mcafee on your computer. They are totally useless. Norton couldn't stop a Trojan even if it pulled the wooden horse behind it.

I use and recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. It has consistently been rated at the top in independent testing in terms of protection, performance, and usability. It protects against viruses, Trojans, spyware, malware, Java exploits, and malicious scripts. It doesn't slow down your computer, and it's easy to use. It has a couple of extra features that you can enable. One is a URL advisor, which warns you of dangerous web sites and Google search results so you don't click on anything that could harm your computer. Another is the banner ad blocker, which blocks annoying ads in the web browser. I love ad-free internet! There's also something called "Safe Money" which adds an extra layer of security to financial transactions such as online banking and shopping. There is a free 30 day trial version of the software at the Kaspersky website, below. Right now, the software is selling for $25 at Amazon. Regular retail is $80.

Comodo Internet Security is the best I have found. Behind that is Kaspersky. I've dealt with Norton, Mcafee, Avast, et al, for years and they are TERRIBLE. They suffer MANY false positives, have terrible user interfaces, and they seem to have no idea how to recognize and deal with typical and simple hijackers. (FBI/DHS 'virus' for example)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is great for adware/spyware specifically.
I've noticed that people who gravitate toward Norton, Avast, etc are newbies that think they are experts because they learned how to use microsoft office. They typically use Internet Explorer and couldn't troubleshoot themselves out of a wet paper sack. Get Comodo Free & Malwarebytes

People who recommended McAfee and Norton either don't work computer security, or are just trolling. As already stated, Avast and Malwarebytes work very well together. Add in an adblocker (AdblockPlus and or an edited windows host file) and CCleaner and you should be golden.

While they may be slow, McAfee and Norton are pretty great. If anything they are overprotective, which is why some user really don"t like them, but if security is what you want then either one is great. Personally I use Windows Defender which is free, and i have never gotten a virus.

- The best and fastest one are the following:
Norton Internet Security (Pro-Active)
Malwarebyte Anti-Malware (Schedule scans)
Hitman Pro ( Weekly Scans)
You might also consider Emsisoft Anti-Malware! :)
