Will Distortion damage my amplifier?
I am using a solid body electric guitar, and I am wondering if distortion can damage or destroy my amplifiers at medium volume after extensive use. I mean distortion by turning up the gain with no pedal.

No amplifier will be damaged by playing through them however you set the controls so the answer is "no". The gain control is there to allow a distorted sound to be produced. It wouldn't be there if using it could damage the amp.

At medium volume, you shouldn't cause any damage.
Of course over time, the rubber that suspends the speaker cone can get brittle or it wears down so it goes a little flat, but for the most part you will be fine. I had an amp for almost 20 years and it sounded fine, got more rusty than anything else, and I used to abuse the hell out of it.

turning up the gain can hurt the speaker if you play too loud, simple as that. Won't hurt the amp in any other way, so far as I know. Never heard of it happening, anyway. Amps will go out, but not from any settings on the amp itself. A better speaker might be required.

No. But if you MAX OUT the volume, and I mean turn it all the way up then that won't be good for it.
