How many bass players have you seen use a pick?

I've only ever seen 4:

Ollie Riedel of Rammstein

Gary Shea of Alcatrazz

Taiji and Heath of X Japan

There are a lot of bass players that use picks when they play.

One guy that played bass for me used to use felt picks a lot and had a real smooth mellow tone he got using them.

lots. it varies by genre and era. modern players seem more likely to play with a pick. punk players seem more likely to play with a pick. i'm the sort of player that likes to finger pick with flat wound strings and maybe even a foam mute, get that old school soul/reggae thump tone. but it seems like a lot of people these days like a brighter tone, and are more apt to use a pick and round wounds. not that there is anything wrong with that.

Jason Newsted who was in Metallica often used picks.

Well I don't know about professional players, but both my best friend and my ex-boyfriend play bass and they use picks :)

You must have lead a very sheltered life! I'm afraid I haven't kept count so I couldn't say, "how many", but "lots"!
