What are these yellow flowers used for cooking?
I spent some time in the Caucasus, and everyone in the rural areas would hang two things up to dry, to be used later for cooking: strings of red chilis and strings of saffron-coloured flowers. I thought it WAS saffron, until I learned that saffron flowers are purple. Any idea what they might have been?

probably marigolds - Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
