what does a six week old kitten eat?

I just rescued a baby kitten. it was all alone and it might be 6 weeks if that and I have a dog so I was wondering if she could eat his food if it was a little wet? she is very small and she is very cuddly and talkitive. can she have milk? I just don't want her to starve while she's with me. thanks :)

Cow's milk might give her indigestion or diarrhea. A pet store or veterinarian would have an appropriate mother's milk substitution. Since cats have different nutritional needs, you should really feed her cat food, and place it where the dog cannot reach it. Canned cat food is good, but give her small amounts at first to make sure she tolerates it. Dry cat food is also good; there are several brands that make kitten kibble for her to eat for her first year. If she has difficulty eating the dry food, you could moisten it a little bit with water or the milk substitute.

At six weeks, it is old enough for kitten food (dry or canned). You can give it cat replacement milk, but it doesn't really need it.

You cannot give it cow's milk. It will upset its stomach and cause diarrhea.

You cannot give it dog food, as cats have very specific protein and amino acid requirements.

If it eats a little dog food just to tide you/it over until you can get proper food for it, that won't hurt it, but it should not be fed dog food on a regular basis.

NO dog food of any kind. NO cow's milk either. Get yourself some high quality canned kitten food, KMR and mix it together with warm water and give a spoonful 3-4 x a day. You may need to push a bit of canned food into her mouth at first.

Get the kitten to the vet to verify the age, wormed, set up shots schedule and spay/neuter by 4 months old.

No! Kittens drink their mom's milk. If this one is indeed 6 weeks and was abandoned it is probably malnourished. If under 6 weeks then absolutely it stays on formula:

KMR - Kitten Milk Replacement from the pet supply store and probably feed it with a bottle.

Whiskas Cat Milk - also from pet supply

Cat Sip - also from pet supply

Goat's milk - from the grocery store dairy dept. usually sold in quart sizes

Absolutely NO cow's milk because they are usually lactose intolerant and it will give them diarrhea.

Kittens can only eat kitten kibble and canned kitten food. Take that kitten to the vet and have it checked out. It needs to be blood tested for FIV and FeLV. FIV positive it can live a long time indoors only stress free life. FeLV positive is fatal so discuss prognosis with the vet. It also needs to be dewormed by the vet.

Quite often kittens start to be weaned at 6 weeks. In this case, I'd hold off until the vet sees it and frankly probably another two weeks to give it time to regain health and nourishment that formula can give it. Keep it warm with heating pad on low, wrapped in a pillowcase.

Babies. As cats are well know for being creations of the dark lord Satan they have to fulfill there blood oath to their creator. As their blackened king demands they must sacrifice a human soul to his power. Because your cat is six weeks old the only thing it will be able to handle is a baby. It can't help itself, that's why Satan chose the cat. Their bloodline is rife with some of the most bloodthirsty felines in history. Very few have come into contact with one at the maturity of their contract and lived to tell the tale. I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you do not simply ignore my warning. Whether you believe it or not your cat will kill before the next full moon. It has no choice in the matter. Stay frosty.

You can give her the pate' style canned foods. You can even give her the supplamental milk that can be bought at pet stores.
