How to keep laptop running smooth?

What are the weekly/monthly things that should be done continuously, if any, to keep a laptop in good shape running fast and smooth? Or is a laptop doomed to slow down as it ages?

To avoid unwanted malfunctions, ensure to place your computer in an area which is well ventilated. Also, see to it that the air vents are not obstructed to avoid overheating as it can lead to defects in internal components. Overheating is also a source of many other problems in pc. If you’re using a laptop, don’t put it on cloth or soft material such as on the bed where the air vents will be blocked. Instead, place it on a flat, hard surface.

Make periodic interior cleaning part of the maintenance of your system. Try to clean up the dust which accumulates inside the computer including the case, fan, power supply vents and circuitry. You can use compressed gas cans like the Dust-Off Duster to clean these components. Do this every six months or more frequent than that if necessary. Through this, circuitry damage and overheating can be avoided. Remember to unplug your pc from the power outlet, of course, to avoid electric shock and static damage to circuitry.

Remember to make Recovery disk as the first this you do when you bring home a new computer or laptop.

Make it a habit to create backups of valuable data in case of unprecedented failure which causes data loss. If possible, keep updated backups and place the disks in a safe place so that even if your pc gets damaged or destroyed, you’ll still have your precious files.

Install a reliable anti-virus program. Be sure to keep it updated frequently to protect your pc from harmful virus attacks. For more protection, set up the firewall as it can help make your computer more secure.

Run Scandisk and Defragmenter on your pc once in a few months for the maximization of the hard drive’s efficiency. Run Disc Cleanup to empty the recycling bin and remove accumulated files. If don’t know how to utilize these programs, you can use the Help and Support located on the Start menu. Learn all the mechanisms of your pc by searching for keywords in the Help section.

Avoid eating, drinking or smoking when using your pc. Eating and drinking while browsing the net brings the risk of spillage. Moreover, smoking may result to residues inside the computer. This can cause damages to sensitive parts like keyboard and mouse.

Clean the keyboard with Dust-Off Duster and keyboard wipes to assure that it will perform properly. Cleaning the keyboard will help you in one other way… by removing those nasty germs.

Clean the screen. This type of cleaning won’t make your computer or laptop run better, but if you use the wrong cleaning products (window cleaner and paper towel), you run the risk of damaging your screen. This may lead to you wanting to buy a new computer or laptop.

Clean the mouse. Nothing irritates a computer user when the mouse is not performing properly while you try to complete a project. Take the time to clean with Dust-Off wipes and swab.

Keeping a laptop running fast isn't about using a program like Ccleaner which is a file cleaning program. It helps but you need a good tune up tool and the most important things you can do are to disable programs that run all the time, that arent needed.Next file cleaner helps and defrag. Here's a link to a great tool.Spend a little time figuring out the tools and you can have a laptop that runs better than when you first turned it on. Every computer I've ever had is tuned and runs faster than it did from the factory and they run like that till I get rid of them. Toolwiz care is free and without a doubt better than anything you can get for free or paid.

    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner and http://www.piriform.com/defraggler

you should probably run both once a week or so.

Also make sure to keep your laptop dust free by blowing in the vents (while its off) with canned air, or a blower vac or air compressor.

Its also usually good to get a laptop cooler. (as an overheating laptop will throttle itself)

The only other thing is to just manage your system effectively.

Manage installs and background processes, so you dont have tons of **** all running all the time and you dont have a plethora of installs and uninstalls of hundreds of programs.

Staying free of malware/viruses/spyware/etc will also help. since all those are usually big resource hogs and slow your computer drastically.

i use Norton's and if sucks, I here that McAfee is bad.

I suggest to get (AVG Internet Security) and (Avg Pc tuneup) it will do good.

The pc tuneup will let you clean up old updates, restore points and more.

They have (AVG Internet Security/ and Avg Pc tuneup) 2014 out at Walmart and possible at Amazon.com
